The City of London just announced a pilot for Licensed Child Care Affordability for London and Middlesex County. It will aim to improve affordability, quality, and access to licensed child care for families with children 0 to 4 years of age.
The one-time Pilot, will run from June 1st through December 31st, 2018, and will support both families and child care providers within the licensed centre and home based child care system. Families that currently pay all, or some of their child care fees will save up to $7.00 per day, per child, 0-4 years of age, from now until December.
The cost savings are designed to provide increased access to licensed child care. It will provide opportunities for families who may only be accessing the system on a part time basis, as well as new families wishing to enter the system.
“This is an opportunity to address affordability and increase access to high quality licensed child care for our youngest population here in London and Middlesex County,” said Lynne Livingstone, Managing Director, Neighbourhood, Children and Fire Services.
The Licensed Child Care Affordability Pilot will also include initiatives and support for licensed child care providers to enhance quality, build capacity, and support for children with special needs.
Funding for the Licensed Child Care Affordability Pilot has been made available by the Province of Ontario and the Government of Canada.
