2018 Police Week Starts Monday

It’s almost Police Week! Want to learn more about your local police force and the kinds of things they do? The London Police Service will be celebrating 2018 Police Week from May 13th through May 18th, at a variety of events throughout the city.

Since 1970, Police Week has coincided with Peace Officers Memorial Day, recognized internationally on May 15th. This year’s theme Celebrating Policing and Community Partnerships highlights the on-going collaboration between the police and community to create safer and stronger communities.

On Tuesday, Londoners can stop by McDonald’s at 1950 Dundas Street East for “Coffee with a Cop.” Drop by for a coffee, and chat with members of London Police Services between 10am and 2pm.

Wednesday will mark the final chapter of the on-going Chief for a Day video contest. The winner of the student Chief for a Day will take the reigns of the police service for the day! Londoners are invited to follow along at @lpsmediaoffice on Twitter, for live tweets throughout the day.

On both Thursday and Friday, the police outreach will be at different locations with Crime Prevention Displays, where they will be providing crime prevention information, and answering questions. They will be at Cherryhill Village Mall on Thursday from 10am-1pm, and Argyle Mall on Friday from 10am-1pm.

People are also invited to check londonpolice.ca next week, for stories providing an inside look at the work of officers, civilians, special constables, volunteers and cadets. Londoners can also follow along and join in the conversation on social media with the hashtag #PoliceWeekON.
