When classes resume on Septembber 4th, 50,000 London and area students may not have school bus transportation thanks to a contract dispute.
The Thames Valley District School Board and the London District Catholic Board warned of widespread service disruptions in a joint letter to parents and guardians today.
“This message is to proactively alert you of the need to consider alternate transportation arrangements for your student(s) in the event of a potential service disruption by local school bus companies when classes begin this fall,” the letter states.
“We recognize that a possible disruption in service will create significant inconvenience to many families and we are grateful for the understanding of students, parents/guardians and staff as we work through this complex matter.”
Parents may need to consider carpooling with other neighbourhood families or look at public transit as an alternative.
The Southwestern Ontario Student Transportation Services (STS) who organized buses for all students in the London region, have been in negotiations with seven local bus operators for the last three weeks but an agreement has not been reached.
