Thunderstorm Warning, Heat Alert Continues

A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued for the area of London and Middlesex County. Strong to severe thunderstorms over Southern Lake Huron and in the Sarnia area will track southeast across the London area between 4.30 and 5.00 PM and may reach St. Thomas between 5.00 and 5.30 PM.

Environment Canada’s advisory comes amid a heat warning for the region, that was issued by the weather agency on Sunday and Monday.

The tropical air mass continues to hang on in Southern Ontario this afternoon, with temperatures in the upper twenties to low thirties and humidex values reaching 35 to 40. Please keep pets and children safe, and not locked in cars.

The hot and humid conditions are coming to an end this evening, as a cold front will move through the region, with considerably cooler and less humid air being ushered in by northwesterly winds.

Extreme heat affects everyone, but the risks are greater for young children, pregnant women, older adults, people with chronic illnesses and people working or exercising outdoors.
