Big Push Needed For Final Day of the London Cares Curb Hunger Food Drive

Today is the final day of the London Cares Curb Hunger Food Drive and the food bank could use Londoners help. As of Thursday, approximately 37,000 pounds of food had been collected. That’s about ten percent short of last year, and has them trending to collect less than the 47,000 pounds that they collected last year.

Glen Pearson is the Executive Director of the London Food Bank, and said that the slip in donations could be caused by this week’s provincial election, but that the food drive often sees a glut of donations on the final day.

“It always happens this way, but mostly because people are just really busy and mean to get around to it but need the extra push.”

The food bank conduct the drive at this time of year, because the summer is traditionally a slower period for food donations and they need to stock their shelves for the upcoming months.

Even though Londoners obviously can’t put food donations beside their blue box on a weekend, they can can drop donations off at local grocery stores and London’s 14 fire halls today.
