City Wants Help Shaping The Future of Parks and Recreation

The City of London is working on a new Parks and Recreation Master Plan that will provide direction in the City’s investment in parks, recreation programs, facilities and sport services for the next decade and beyond. The City would like Londoners input.

Residents are being asked to share how they use parks, recreation programs, facilities and sport services, through a new online community survey.

“Parks and recreation services have consistently been identified by Londoners as having a positive impact and providing great benefit to individuals, neighbourhoods and the entire city,” says Lynne Livingstone, Managing Director of Neighbourhood, Children and Fire Services.

Along with the community survey, City staff are hosting input sessions with stakeholders and user groups to establish key principles that reflect community aspirations. Public input, participation trends, utilization levels, best practices, demographic changes and growth forecasts will all be used in formulating the Master Plan.

The Stoney Creek Community Centre, YMCA and Library, and the new Southwest Community Center opening later this year, as well as increased programming in neighbourhoods, capital investment and repairs to facilities, accessibility improvements and playground equipment replacement, are all directly related to the previous Master Plans completed by the City in 2003 and 2009.

“We are excited to work through this plan with the public and continuing to respond to current and future wishes of our users,” said Scott Stafford, Managing Director of Parks and Recreation.

Londoners are encouraged to visit getinvolved.london.ca to learn more about the Parks and Recreation Master Plan and complete the online survey.

The survey will remain open until July 23, 2018.
