Clean And Green Kicks Off 23rd Year In London With “12 Days of Cleaning”

London Partners, volunteers, sponsors and City staff, all came together today to roll out 12 Days of Cleaning, and kickstart another Clean and Green campaign – the 23rd annual London event. 12 Days of Cleaning will focus on providing information and improving awareness on litter, garbage and illegal dumping. It will highlight existing programs like electronics recycling, safe disposal of household special waste, recycling renovation materials, reuse of clothing, and tire recycling.

“A cleaner, greener London is everyone’s responsibility. Thank you to everyone who works so hard to protect our environment already. I encourage everyone to take part in the 12 Days of Cleaning and focus on sustainability year round.” – Mayor Matt Brown.

Other Clean and Green events include the 20-Minute London Makeover on Friday, April 20th. Local businesses, institutions, and schools are all encouraged to get involved and collect litter and tidy up outside the workplace.

The annual Community Cleanup Day is on Saturday, April 21, and there are already more than forty community sponsors supporting the event. The entire London community is encouraged to register a cleanup location and take part. Visit londoncleanandgreen.ca to learn more about the day, and to use the mapping feature that allows Londoners to note their cleanup locations on a map so that the City can identify that do or do not require attention.

You can pick up garbage bags and disposable gloves for your cleanup on the eighth floor at City Hall, Monday to Friday between 8:30am – 4:30pm.

In 1996, London Clean & Green started as a single cleanup event of garbage and graffiti in the downtown core. Today it has evolved into a program that spans 75 days and focuses first on cleaning up London, but is followed up with many greening events in May and June.

Post a photo of your clean up on Instagram, Facebook or Twitter using the hashtag #20MinuteMakeover and #519CleanGreenand you could win a pizza at Joe Kool’s.

So be proactive. Make a point of getting out there and doing something to help.

Make this beautiful city that we live in, even more beautiful.
