Forty-Six Year Old Charged With Impaired Driving After Causing $20,000 Damage

Yesterday at approximately 9 pm, a vehicle travelling southbound on Veteran’s Memorial Parkway at a high rate of speed, skidded out of control onto Admiral Drive, hitting two traffic signs and a fence before coming to rest after striking a London Hydro box.

A man fled from the vehicle and ran eastbound across Veteran’s Memorial Parkway. Several witnesses contacted London Police while a citizen held the suspect until police arrived.

Damage to the signs, fence, hydro box and the vehicle is estimated to be $20,800.

As a result of the investigation, Paul Gordon Swackhamer, 46, of London, is charged with the following Criminal Code of Canada offences:

Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle;
Driving while ability impaired; and
Fail to stop at scene of accident.

The accused is scheduled to appear in court on August 2, 2018, in relation to the charges.
