Four Public Pools Open This Weekend

After a week of sweltering heat, Londoners will have another option for beating back the humidity as of Saturday. Four of the city’s public outdoor pools open on June 2nd for the summer season.

The four pools opening for recreational swim this Saturday are:

Oakridge Pool, 825 Valetta St.
Stronach Pool, 1221 Sandford St.
Thames Pool, 15 Ridout St. S.
Westminster Pool, 650 Osgoode Dr.

The other 12 outdoor pools will open June 30th.

The Springbank Park wading pool will open June 11 with reduced hours, with the rest of the wading pools opening on Canada Day weekend.

Here are some simple tips to keep in mind for safety:

  • Make sure a lifeguard is on duty as well as safety equipment, such as a rescue ring or a pole, is readily available.
  • Check that the water is clear enough for you to see the drain at the bottom of the pool’s deep end. That’s a good sign that a lifeguard or fellow swimmer can spot you if you need help.
  • Inspect drain covers for damage. Loose or broken drain covers can trap you underwater.
  • Avoid swallowing water.
  • Alert a lifeguard if you notice a problem so they can correct any issue.

You can also do your part to keep the water safe for other swimmers:

  • Shower before you get in the pool
  • Don’t swim or let kids swim if sick with diarrhea.
  • Don’t use the pool as a bathroom.
