Impaired Driving And Resisting Arrest Charge For Electric Bike Driver

On Wednesday evening at approximately 8:20 pm, police observed an electric bicycle being driven erratically near Hamilton Road and Inkerman Street.

Despite the police activating their lights and sirens, the electric bicycle did not stop for police and fled. The electric bicycle and male driver were located a short time later.

When police attempted to arrest the male, a brief struggle ensued.

The male was treated and released from the hospital for injuries.

The Special Investigations Unit was notified and has invoked their mandate, so all inquiries regarding the investigation have been directed to them.

As a result of the investigation, Richard Shova, 55, of London, has been charged with the following Criminal Code of Canada offences:

Impaired operation of a motor vehicle
Fail or refuse to provide a breath sample
Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle
Flight while being pursued by police
Resist arrest
