Knights Sign Russian Import Pick Matvey Guskov

The London Knights announced today that the team has agreed to an OHL Standard Players Agreement with Russian import pick, Matvey Guskov. Guskov was taken 36th overall by the Knights in the first round of the 2018 CHL Import Draft.

“We are very pleased to have signed Matvey and look forward to him playing in London next season,” said London Knights’ General Manager, Rob Simpson. “Matvey is a highly-skilled centre who will bring fans to their feet with explosive plays and his dynamic ability.”

The 2001-born forward will be entering his NHL Draft eligible season where he has been recognized as a potential first-round selection.

Guskov scored 32 points (14 goals, 18 assists) in 25 games last season, playing for CSKA Moskva in the Russian U17 League. He drew a lot of attention for his international play at the World U17 Junior Championships, where he scored four goals and added an assist in five games for Russia.

In January, Sporting News rated him as the TOP prospect for the Import draft.

“Big skilled two-way centre. Played as underage player at the Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament and chipped in with a pair of goals. Complete package. Was one of best players at World Under-17 Challenge. Has solid set of tools. Good speed and explosion – not afraid to run guys over. Showed some high-end skill when he scored fourth goal on an individual effort. Physical, competitive and strong on his feet. Top prospect for 2019 NHL draft.” – scouting director Dennis MacInnis:

Now the Knights have signed both Guskov, and last year’s first round Import Draft pick Adam Boqvist who was drafted 8th overall by the Chicago Blackhawks in the 2018 NHL Entry Draft, but is just 17 years old.

Both will have a dramatic effect on the shape of the roster and the Knights 2018/2019 season.
