LHSC Medical Technician Charged With Sexual Assault

A London Health Sciences Centre (LHSC) medical technician is facing charges after a woman reported being drugged and sexually assaulted during an electroencephalogram (EEG) procedure in the hospital’s Outpatient EEG Clinic. The incident was reported to police on May 11, 2018 and an investigation was launched.

The victim underwent the EEG at University Hospital on April 11, 2018, during which it is said that she was injected with a sedative that put her to sleep. The victim said she was being sexually assaulted when she woke up.

Investigators are worrieed there may be additional victims and encourage anyone who may have had a similar experience to contact police immediately.

As a result of the investigation, Vincent Gauthier, 24, of London, is charged with one count of sexual assault and one count of overcoming resistance by administering or attempting to administer a drug.

Gauthier has been an employee with the London Health Sciences Centre (LHSC) since May 2015. He was based at Victoria Hospital until September 2016, at which point he transferred to the University Hospital where he has been employed as an EEG technician since. He has been suspended since April 25, 2018. The LHSC has been fully cooperative with the police investigation.

The accused has been released from custody and is scheduled to appear in London court on July 3, 2018.
