Live WWI 90-Pound Artillery Shell Found In London

On Tuesday morning at approximately 11 am, the London Police Service (LPS) was contacted in relation to a two-foot-long military shell found in a driveway on Centre Street.

The homeowner noticed the shell after someone placed it near his garbage at the curb, and notified the police.

The LPS Explosive Disposal Unit visited the residence, and then contacted the Canadian Forces Explosive Ordinance Disposal at Borden, which determined the World War I shell was live, and had between 20-30 pounds of explosive inside of it.

The shell was taken back to Borden to be destroyed.

London Police would like to take this opportunity to remind the public to never handle anything that resembles military ordinance. If you find an item of concern, leave the immediate vicinity and call 9-1-1.
