Man Arrested After Trying To Break Into London Police Headquarters

Early this morning, a 42-year-old man was arrested after trying to break into police headquarters.

At around 1am, the man was seen breaking the front window of a store at 437 Adelaide Street with an object. The man left that scene and was later observed hitting the front door of a building at 572 Dundas Street, before moving on to the London Police Headquarters, located at 601 Dundas Street.

The man struck a glass exit door on the north side of the building with a bicycle chain, eventually breaking the glass and attempting to enter the building.

Officers on scene instructed the man to drop the bicycle chain, but when he refused, a Taser was successfully deployed, and he was arrested.

As a result of this investigation, Roger Marchand, 42, of Stratford, is charged with the following Criminal Code of Canada offences:

Break and enter with intent;
Possession of a weapon; and
Mischief under $5000 x 2.

Damages are estimated at approximately $3,000.

The accused is expected to appear in London court today in relation to this incident.

Anyone with information in relation to this incident is asked to call the London Police Service at (519) 661-5670 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
