Nestlé Ice Cream Plant Holding Job Fair On Thursday

In March, Nestlé officials announced a $51.5 million expansion to the Nestlé ice cream plant in London, and immediately created 57 new jobs. Now, Nestlé are hiring for an additional 150 full-time positions, and holding a job fair on Thursday at the Hellenic Community Centre.

The London plant produces virtually all of the Nestlé ice cream for the Canadian market (99%), and Canadians are clearly eating more and more ice cream, as Nestle Director of Factory Operations Arthur Van Raalte has previously stated that production needed to be increased to “meet growing demand”.

The job fair will be held from 10am to 4pm, and Nestlé are looking for staff with basic computer skills, a high school education or equivalent, and that are able to work 40 hours a week on a variety of shifts. The new jobs will be in production, packaging and palleting, and sanitizing lines and equipment, and the employees will join the plant in the next five to seven months.

Interested applicants are invited to bring their resumés for a job fair and interview on Thursday. The company offers progressive wage increases, competitive health benefits, and a company-wide bonus program.

When the positions are filled, the plant will have 550 full-time workers, and about 800 total with seasonal workers. The Swiss-based multinational company has 3,500 employees across Canada, and are a leading employer in London’s agri-food sector.

“We are really proud to be a part of the London community and excited to be able to offer even more valuable employment opportunities within it,” says van Raalte. “For the past 52 years, we have been building a strong foundation for jobs within our state-of-the-art facility that people can feel proud of, and hope to do the same for many more years to come.”

They have already began construction on a 9,000 square foot addition to the plant that will boost production of their signature Drumstick cones, and premium Haagen-Dazs ice cream. The plant also makes Parlour and Real Dairy brands, fruit ice pops, and various candy-based items like Kit Kat, and Coffee Crisp novelty treats.

The London plant on Wilton Grove Road, was established more than 50 years ago.

Nestlé is the leader in the Canadian ice cream market, with about 30 per cent market share.
