Officers Receive Minor Injuries When Two Suspects Resist Arrest

Two London men are in custody after resisting arrest and assaulting officers on Hume Street early Wednesday morning.

At approximately 12:45am Tuesday night, a London Police officer stopped a vehicle on Major Street, just west of Hume Street in relation to a traffic investigation. As a result, the licence plates of the vehicle were seized. Threats were made towards the officer.

Shortly after midnight last night, officers attended the address on Hume Street to locate and arrest the man who made the threats. During the arrest, the man resisted and assaulted one of the officers by punching him repeatedly in the face.

Another person in the residence got involved and a second officer was assaulted.

As a result of the investigation, the following individuals are charged with the following Criminal Code of Canada offences:

Gregory William Vanalstine, 34, of London:

Escape lawful custody;
Assault a peace officer x 2;
Resist arrest; and
Violence/damage/threaten to impede performance of justice duties.

Jacob George Vanalstine, 66, of London:

Assault a peace officer x 2;
Resist arrest; and
Obstruct peace officer.

The officers both sustained minor injuries as a result of the assaults.
