Yesterday at approximately 11:30am, members of the London Police Service were contacted to attend a collision involving two vehicles at the intersection of Commissioners Road West and Andover Drive. When officers arrived on scene, they performed a standardized-field sobriety test on one of the drivers.
As a result, a 61-year-old driver was arrested and charged for impaired operation of a motor vehicle due to drugs. There were no injuries.
Just five minutes after that call was received, police responded to a man who was seen driving into a parking lot in the area of Exeter Road and Sholto Drive, and appeared to lose consciousness behind the wheel.
After locating the man, a standardized-field sobriety test was conducted. As a result, a 27-year-old was arrested and charged for impaired operation of a motor vehicle due to drugs.
London Police have the training and tools necessary to spot and prosecute impaired drivers – whether by alcohol, drugs or other substances.
Police are reminding people that even some legal, prescription drugs can effect a person’s ability to operate a vehicle, and if found to be impaired, you can be charged.
Anyone who sees a suspected impaired driver is encouraged to call 9-1-1.
