Two New London Schools, Family Centres and Child Care Centres Celebrate Official Opening

Media Release from TVDSB:

Community celebrations will take place this week to mark the official opening of London’s two newest public schools with integrated licensed child care centres and Family Centres.

Sir Arthur Currie Public School and Cedar Hollow Public School opened their doors on Sept. 5, 2017 – the first new TVDSB schools built in the city since 2010 at a total cost of $30.5 million, supported by the Province of Ontario.

The schools serve a total of approximately 1,160 students from kindergarten to Grade 8, as well as provide licensed before- and after-school care.

In partnership with London’s Child and Youth Network, each school is also integrated with an 88-space child care centre for children under 3.8 years old and a Family Centre. EarlyON Child and Family Centre programming is provided in both Family Centres with support from the Province of Ontario and the Government of Canada.

Licensed child care is being provided by Whitehills Child Care Association in Sir Arthur Currie and London Children’s Connection in Cedar Hollow Public School. These organizations are also acting as the lead agency for the Family Centre Fox Hollow and Family Centre Fanshawe respectively.

“These schools will provide a seamless system of integrated early learning, making it easier for children, youth and families to participate fully in their community and to find and receive the services they need,” said TVDSB Director of Education Laura Elliott.

“By establishing Family Centres and licensed child care in schools throughout London, the Child and Youth Network is bringing a full spectrum of valuable family services and supports together under one roof, making it easier for families to connect to all the resources and opportunities that are available in their neighbourhoods,” added Lynne Livingstone, the city’s Managing Director, Neighbourhood, Children and Fire Services.

“We are delighted to be part of this collaborative venture,” said Marion Dunleavy, Executive Director of London Children’s Connection. “We envision this as a place where everyone is engaged, inspired and supports the well-being of children, youth and families.”

“In this shared space, we can freely come together to implement our shared vision for children, youth and families and the possibilities are endless,” said Diane Gordon, Executive Director Whitehills Child Care Association.
