Meet London Police Student Chief For The Day, Sage Arnold

Sage Arnold took the helm as London police student chief for the day yesterday, after winning a local contest with a video submission detailing the reasons she should be awarded the position. London Police Service received many videos for the contest, but chose Arnold because of her involvement within the community. The contest is one of various activities lined up for Londoners to learn about the service during Police Week.

Community safety officers visited local schools and distributed flyers asking students to submit a 30-second video nominating a friend, schoolmate, or themselves for the position. Local students residing in London between the ages of 11 and 13 were eligible, and had until Aril 27th to file their submissions. Past recipients of the competition include a young girl who rescued her sibling from a motor-vehicle collision, and another who initiated an anti-bullying program in her classroom.

The winner participates in a number of activities related to their duties as chief, which meant that Sage was picked up at the crack of dawn at 5:45am yesterday morning, and whisked off to the station for a staff meeting.

After the meeting and a tour of the station, Arnold was taken to the range where she fired a gun! The young Chief of The Day was also permitted access to restricted areas of the station, which afforded her a peak at the bomb-disposal trucks and two bomb-disposal robots.

Like all good Police Chiefs, Arnold had appearances to make and people to see – like lunch with the senior officer of Ontario Police College:

Or watching K9 training:

Or police vehicle training at Ontario Police College:

When her “duties” were done, Arnold was returned to her school where she was met for a chat and meet-and-greet with other officers.

Congratulations to Arnold for being a great Student Chief, and to London Police Service for such a great community initiative.

You can catch up with LPS today for Police Week at Cherryhill Village Mall from 10am-1pm where they will be providing crime prevention information, and answering questions at their Crime Prevention Display.
