City Seeking Input On One River Environmental Assessment

Londoners are invited to share their feedback on the next stage of the One River Environmental Assessment, at a Public Information Centre (PIC) on Wednesday, June 6th. The City of London is hosting the PIC to gather input on three streams of river-based projects as the One River Environmental Assessment moves into Stage Two.

With the preferred option for Springbank Dam endorsed, the City is seeking input on three streams of river-based projects:

River Management Options – define plans for shoreline remediation, access points, look outs, and other features
Dam Decommissioning Options – determine the approach and ideal result of a decommissioned dam
Forks of the Thames Options – select preferred and priority features based on the Back to the River Design by Civitas.

Comments received at the PIC will be considered in the evaluation of options for each component of the project. City Staff and the project consultant team from Jacobs will be available to discuss the information presented.

A second PIC will then be held in September 2018 to present the results of the evaluation and the recommended solutions.

The One River Environmental Assessment will create a Master Plan for the Thames River, addressing infrastructure needs and the community’s recreational and ecological vision for the river. The plan’s area of focus will be the Thames River from the Forks of the Thames and Harris Park, to the Boler Road Bridge.

The preferred option for Springbank Dam, to allow for a free-flowing river by decommissioning the Dam, was endorsed by City Council in January of this year, following public engagement and a comprehensive review.
