Man And Woman Charged In Defrauding Senior Citizens

The London Police have laid charges in relation to two fraud investigations involving seniors, that took place in May when a woman entered an apartment complex on Oxford Street West, under the guise of being a personal support worker.

It is alleged that the woman gained access to at least two apartments in a seniors-only residence, and used credit cards owned by the residents to withdraw money from their accounts.

As a result of investigations by members of the Financial Crimes Unit, Amanda Lee Rose Albert, 33, of London was charged with the following Criminal Code of Canada offences on June 26 and 27, 2018:

Unlawfully in a dwelling house;
Fraud over $5000;
Possess proceeds of property or thing exceeding $5000 obtained by crime; and
Using a credit card without authorization.

Tharron Adrian Paris, 31, also of London, is wanted in relation to the same incidents. He has been charged by way of warrant with the following Criminal Code of Canada offences:

Fraud under $5000;
Fraud over $5000;
Possess proceeds of property or thing not exceeding $5000 obtained by crime;
Possess proceeds of property or thing exceeding $5000 obtained by crime; and
Using a credit card without authorization x 2.

Tharron Paris has not yet been located by police.

This is a reminder to all citizens, especially seniors, that any person entering your home to provide a service or any kind of assistance should be asked to provide identification to confirm that they are entering your home for a legitimate purpose.

It is believed that there may be other members of the community, likely seniors, who may have been targeted in a similar fashion but have not come forward to the Police.

Amanda Albert is expected to appear in London court on July 3, 2018 in relation to the charges.

Anyone with information in relation to this incident or Paris’s whereabouts is asked to call the London Police Service at (519) 661-5670 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477). Information can also be sent in on-line anonymously to www.londoncrimestoppers.com
