Award-winning illustrator Willow Dawson will be at Tingfest today, to discuss her career in book illustration, and her book White as Milk, Red as Blood, which was released earlier this week.
The artist talk called Wicked Book Illustration is at 3:00pm and will be hosted by Linda Ludke, London Pubic Library’s Collections Management Librarian, and give Londoners a chance to hear about Willow’s highly anticipated brand new release. White as Milk, Red as Blood is Willow’s fantastic illustrated interpretation of The Forgotten Fairy Tales of Franz Xaver von Schönwerth, that were found in a municipal archive in Germany in 2009.
They are harrowing tales of giants, and witches, and of powerful princesses, and lecherous villains.
From Amazon:
Award-winning illustrator Willow Dawson, in collaboration with translator Shelley Tanaka, has brought these long-lost tales unforgettably to life, illuminating with striking woodcut-style illustrations a spectacular collection that will change the way you look at fairy tales forever. Paired with Dawson’s arresting artwork, the stories in White as Milk, Red as Blood race with palpable energy through fantasy landscapes darker, bawdier and racier than anything we find in Disney or the Grimms.
